As many of you know, I purchased Zorro back in March of this year. My goal was to start using him as not only my personal horse, but also a lesson horse as well...well....when he first arrived at Brookhaven, I quickly realized that being a lesson horse would have to be put on hold, because he had QUITE A BIT of reviewing and learning that he needed to do! So we got down to business and he's been hitting flatwork pretty hard over the past few months. When he first arrived, he was so tense and a giant ball of energy. He didn't know what it meant to move off of my leg, bend through his ribs, soften through his jaw, or how to even use his back! However with quiet persistence and A TON of patience, he's finally at the point where I believe he can start teaching a few other people how to ride. He's still a tricky ride on some days and he can be full of himself (or as we like to say "a lot of horse to handle"), but on other days he's quiet as can be and soft with everything he does. Thankfully this past Sunday, Zorro got to dip his toes into the water of Lesson Horse World with one of my students and he was an absolute gentleman! We still have quite a bit of work to do, but seeing him finally enter the lesson program is so exciting and rewarding!
